CANDLES are popular for weddings not only for traditional reasons, but candles create an atmosphere and character.

Renee's Candles offers you a range of individual, personalised candles crafted to your design, for any of your special occasions.

"Customers can email designs, logos and photos to me," owner Renee said. "Photos of the bridal couple on candles are becoming particularly popular. I use traditional white candles as the designs and colours stand out better on them.

"I will make you a candle that no-one will miss and everyone will love."

Renee commenced the business when friends admired the candle she had made for her son's christening when she couldn't find a suitable one.

Catering for around 60 to 80 weddings a year, she has more than 10 years of experience in crafting candles.

Orders can take from a few weeks to a few months to complete, depending on the size of the order. Prices range from $5 per candle to a wedding set of $120. There is also a discount for large orders.

"Many couples use small candles as a bomboniere for their guests with their name on the front and a thank you message on the back - this saves doubling up on name cards," Renee said.

The traditional wedding candle is personalised with the names of the bride and groom.

Family sets consist of two additional candles, each with the couple's family names.

These utility candles - as they are sometimes called - play a large part in the wedding ceremony.

The couple's mother, or close family member, lights the two outer candles to represent the couple's lives up to this point.

Together the couple light a centre candle that symbolises the union of their lives, and as the two flames come together, the couple become one.
